As it’s raining so much here in Pune, was craving something crunchy to enjoy this evening. Simple and quick recipe I got.. one of my friends said me about chicken bang bang.. long before.. so just scrolled through few recipes. Compiled 2/3 and here it is🤗.
Chicken bang bang is a famous street food of China and so this is named as bang bang because the hawker bangs the boneless breast pieces on counter to make the meat strips thin. Don’t have much info and even not willing to dig deep inside. After all my palette banged banged and so it’s done 😂.
Here I tried the recipe with prawns. For the below given ingredients, you can take about 400 gms of chicken breast pieces.
Though this recipe served only 2 persons (my son and myself) 😁, but in a mannered way can be served to 3-4 persons as an appetiser.
20 pcs of cleaned prawns with tails
5 tbsp APF or refined flour
2 tbsp cornflour
1/2 each of garlic and onion powder
1 tsp red chilly powder
1/4 tsp black pepper powder
1 tsp hot sauce.. I used sriracha.. you can opt for red chilly sauce
1 whole egg
5 tbsp of buttermilk
salt as required
1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs or as much you require
oil for deep frying
FOR BANG BANG SAUCE:
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup sweet chilli sauce or go for tomato chilly sauce
1 tbsp hot sauce..I used sriracha.. you can opt for red chilly sauce
1 tbsp honey
1/4 tsp pepper powder
salt if required as I didn’t use
First of all put all the ingredients of bang bang sauce together in a bowl and mix well. Keep it aside.
For bang bang prawns, take all ingredients except prawns and breadcrumbs, together in a deep bowl. Mix all very well.
Now add prawns to it. Incorporate well and keep it aside for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, heat oil in a deep skillet. Take breadcrumbs in a plate. Pick a piece of prawn eloped in sauce well and and coat crumbs on all sides. Add into hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes, based on the size of prawn. Try to fry in smaller batches so that oil maintains its temperature. As they are golden brown, take them out. Repeat the same for remaining prawns.
As all the pieces of prawns are fried, just run few drops of bang bang sauce on all. For garnishing can sprinkle some parmesan and cilantro or coriander leaves.
Now give your mouth some crunch😉.
